High Plains Landowner Survey: Farmers, Ranchers and Conservation

DJ Case helped the Playa Lakes Joint Venture (PLJV) explore landowner awareness and appreciation of playas (wetlands), wildlife and conservation - and determine their motives for land management practices and habitat-impact decisions. A mail survey of landowners randomly selected across a six-state region revealed that most playa-owning landowners were willing to conserve the wetlands, but only a small fraction of landowners were actually enrolling in playa conservation programs available to them. PLJV used results to focus communication campaigns on benefits of landowner incentive programs.
