When the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Region 4 held the first-ever biologists’ conference, it attracted more than 300 participants. To pull off the cardinal event, the Southeast Region enlisted DJ Case to coordinate advance and on-site meeting content and logistics management as well as graphic design and web survey development services. The conference provided the region with a major opportunity to use staff expertise and skills to move the region forward in implementing the Strategic Habitat Conservation (SHC) approach. It marked a critical step in the effort to begin the region’s improvement process. The conference set the stage for staff to engage their partners to develop appropriate goals, design and deliver conservation actions, and evaluate the region’s effectiveness and progress.
The conference provided a forum for exchange of information and experiences involving resource management and conservation across the Southeast. Confronting climate change, preventing species extinctions, halting the spread of invasive species, managing the increasing conflict and competition for limited water resources, and enhancing management of refuges and hatcheries were focuses of the conference. It also emphasized new and emerging concepts in conservation, and the tools necessary to achieve the region’s objectives.

DJ Case thinks 'outside the box' with this unique design that captured the essence of the many facets of the conference.
