Mexican Gray Wolf Reintroduction Public Involvement

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service enlisted DJ Case for consultation and implementation of a public involvement process and scoping meetings preparatory to development of an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for Mexican Wolf reintroduction in Arizona and New Mexico. The project included organizing and facilitating 12 open house public meetings, development of educational materials, a “virtual” meeting web site (MexicanWolfEIS.org), coordination with a multi-agency group, and review and summarization of public comments.

Meetings, web sites and materials were all designed to maximize collaborative communication while minimizing conflict on this issue that brought together ranchers, farmers, urbanites, and animal rights activists, all with widely divergent and passionate views about the Mexican wolf reintroduction.
