Cooperative Conservation Listening Sessions

In a tremendous show of support for collaboration and partnering to achieve conservation, 1,300 participants attended the White House Conference on Cooperative Conservation in 2005. As a follow-up to this event, the federal government hosted 25 public listening sessions across the nation in 2006. Sessions were hosted by the departments of Agriculture, Commerce, Defense, and Interior; Environmental Protection Agency; and White House Council on Environmental Quality. DJ Case coordinated the 25 listening sessions during a whirlwind effort over three months. DJ Case developed listening session guidelines, logistics and scripts; event moderation and facilitation, and data tabulation and development. Overall, 34,024 individual comments were received, and a petition was submitted with 176,000 signatures. DJ Case reviewed and analyzed all comments submitted and then compiled the information into a summary report for federal partners.
